The truffle has got an external peel which is called peridium, hard and impenetrable, that protects the truffle itself. Inside there is a less hard part full of striations which is called gleba. These striations are called hyphae (they form the mycelium as a whole) and they are the ones that bind to the plants’ roots to make the mycorrhiza.
