The first historical sources about the truffle of which we have traces are by Pliny the Elder (79 AD), who tells us that it was already used by the Romans at the table and was much appreciated. There is a legend about the origins of the truffle, which would be divine: it would derive from the mixture of three fundamental elements, which are water, fire and lightning thrown by Zeus in person on an oak. From here we can also guess the value that the ancients attributed to the precious fungus.
